Affordable Maui Weddings — Top 5 Cost-Saving Tips
Honey, the Budget's On the Rise...Again
The average cost of a wedding in the United States is nearly $30,000. Although when you actually start planning your wedding you realize just how quickly costs can get out of control and exceed that average or your budget. Destination weddings such as those on Maui can be expensive, however, there are ways to keep costs down while still having your dream wedding.
Tip #1: Plan You Maui Wedding During Off-Peak Times
Maui is a beautiful tropical paradise so it's not surprising that so many people want to visit — especially couples. The busiest times on island are during the summer months of June, July and August as well as the winter months of December - March. Those peak times mean higher costs for nearly everything — flights, hotels, rental cars — even activities. However, if you plan your Maui wedding outside of those busy times (April, May, September, October) you can save lots of money.
We also have a travel and accommodations specialist on our team that can assist with flights, lodging, rental cars and group discounts.
Tip #2: Great Experiences Come Packaged
If you have ever been to a restaurant where the menu is a-la-carte, then you know how expensive the bill can be at the end of the night. The same principle applies to weddings. Instead of ordering flowers through one vendor, photography services through another and catering through a third vendor, consider bundling as many services together as possible. We have created a variety of Maui wedding packages that can work for a number of scenarios — from small beach weddings to large estate weddings. Maui wedding packages can include:
• A licensed officiant
• A photographer/videographer (number of photos depends on the package chosen)
• Any necessary permits (beach weddings require one)
• Marriage license appointment
• Flowers
• Hair and makeup services
• Musical accompaniments and entertainment
• Celebratory Toast
• Wedding cake
• Transportation
• Butterfly or Dove release
• Accommodations
Tip #3: Hire a Wedding Planner
When you build a house you hire a contractor. When the plumbing goes awry you hire a plumber. When the roof needs repair you hire a roofer. When you get married you...hire a wedding planner! Why? A reputable planner's goal is to make your dream wedding a reality while not busting the budget or adding to your stress level. A wedding planner also assists with the "day-of services," which include the set up and tear down of the ceremony and reception; timing of the ceremony, vendor confirmation as well as all of the little things that need tending to on your big day.
Tip #4: Don't Invite Every Person You Know
Usually, the larger the invite list the larger the cost. If you are trying to keep your wedding costs low, you many want to consider having a smaller Maui wedding. That way you can still enjoy some splurges here and there but because the invite list is small, your budget won't go out the window. However, if you come from a large family or have friends who won't take no for an answer, why not have a BBQ at a beach park instead of a formal sit down dinner? Costs are obviously much lower this way. Alternatively you can have a morning wedding followed by a light brunch, which is again more cost effective.
Tip #5: Don't Go Overboard on Decorations
Maui is one of the most beautiful places in the world. The natural scenery includes teal ocean waters, white sand beaches, blue skies, rainbows, lava fields, waterfalls and flowers of every color — some of which can only be found in Hawaii. The point? There's no need to go over the top with wedding decorations when you can get all of the above for free!
